About this 4x4

The car

The Toyota Land Cruiser Troopie is our safari-vibe off-roader, with a 4.2L diesel engine and a manual gearbox. It is great for friends or families with bigger kids (no baby seats) looking for a rugged adventure.

It is our pick for a more rugged trip and adventurous travellers: we suggest a maximum of 6 adults when camping and we can provide normal ground tents with inflatable mattress. It can carry any of our three rooftop tents: Standard, Double or Hard-Shell. Like every car in our fleet it is a real 4x4 set up for Costa Rica's back roads, with a side awning and the full camping kit.

Nomad america was fantastic to work with, the vehicle exactly as presented and performed amazing. My wife and I rented the troop carrier, and every step of the way it felt like Ole reliable. … We took out the 70-Series Land Cruiser Troopy, a torque-y diesel beast that took us through rough terrain easily. Definitely a rougher ride than the FJ Cruiser we took out our first trip, but the Troopy has far better visibility and more space. …

We were 3 people and rented the Land Cruiser für one week. The car was amazing and took us everywhere(!) without any problems. All the camping stuff you need was included. Diego and the rest of the nomad staff gave us great Support to all our questions, not only regarding the car but also travel recommendations. …
